How French works
Beginner Unit 27:

Perfect tense of -re verbs

Key points

  • For -re verbs the past participle is formed by removing the -re from the infinitive and adding -u: rendu

For most verbs ending -re in the perfect , the past participle is formed by removing the -re from the infinitive and adding -u. The verb rendre which means to give back conjugates as follows in the perfect:

rendre to give back
j’ ai rendu
tu as rendu
il / elle a rendu
nous avons rendu
vous avez rendu
ils / elles ont rendu

Here are some examples:

Il a descendu les valises

He brought down the suitcases
