How French works
Beginner Unit 35:

The future of irregular verbs

Key points

  • There are many verbs in French that are irregular in the future. These include: j'irai - I'll go, j’aurai - I'll have, je serai - I'll be, je ferai - I'll do.

Many verbs in French are wholly irregular in the future. To form them you need to use a specific future "stem" (and not the infinitive) which you add the standard endings to: -ai, -as, -a, -ons, -ez, -ont.
