Gender of nouns (2)

Key points

  • Words ending –age, –eau, –ège, –isme and –ment are generally masculine.
  • Words ending –ée, –ence, –que, –ière and –tion are generally feminine.

It is possible to tell the gender of some nouns through their word ending. The following word endings tend to be masculine :
